The Last Touches

The third picture is Len installing the shoe base molding under the countertop for the "finished" look. (Note: the molding we purchased at Home Depot had Woodgrain Molding stickers on it.) This photo was taken at 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 29th. Len had gone to Six Flags over Texas on Monday with Erlynne and Ethan -he had a great time, but now he is trying to finish up all the projects before he flies back home the next day. In fact, he stayed up til 3:30 a.m. grout caulking around the edges of the tile and switches.

The NEW breakfast bar, complete with bar stools. Where it used to be a useless pony bar is a comfortable place to sit to eat or chat. The supports are called "carbals", and after looking at several kinds, we purchased these from Lowes $7 for a set of two, brushed nickel. Len installed the 3 inch base board over the top of the screws and support beam (with considerable routing and chiseling to make them fit flat) This is a work of art too.

Here is a close up of the edges of the backsplash. The two on the right are the side next to the table light switch. The other end pictured is next to the back door, now the breakfast bar.

As I type this, Len is installing the last of the GCFI electrical outlets in the bathrooms. That way, no one will get electricuted while they are playing in water.

I take Len to the airport this afternoon for his flight back home. I will miss him here, but will have constant reminders everywhere of what a skilled and talented craftsman he is. I will be forever indebted to him for making my house look so beautiful.
