We had a quick lunch at Clark and Guinevere's house before we drove to the north shore in downtown Boston, finding a parking garage and hurrying to the ferry to pick up our tickets to ride to George's Island to see Fort Warren. I took a few pictures on the boat ride to the island. Look at those first:
| Ben and Grandlady, with my windblown hair |
| Smiling Cassius and Guinevere on the ferry boat to the island. |
| Ben and Grandpa Steve. Ben loves to tell stories. He is in the middle of one here. |
| We are just leaving the harbor. You can see the ferry that just left before our boat, behind Steve's head. Our boat looked exactly like that. |
| The cute family. Love the looks and the smiles. |
| At the lookout point of the island, the family poises for me |
| Boston is in the background. I think we explored the entire fort. It took over an hour. |
| Daddy Clark is explaining to Ben and Cassius how the cannon works. We are on the top of the fort with the barracks and buildings underneath. It was an excellent camouflage for the incoming enemy ships. It looked like an island with trees and bushes but it was really fifty cannons aimed right at them. The fort was built pre-Civil War. |
| Leaving the fort. This is the bottom half of the buildings. The stairways to the top are all over the compound. I think we climbed nearly all of them. Ben and Cass loved the "secret stairways." |
| We caught the 3:15 p.m. ferry back to Boston harbor. More windblown me! |
| They don't get much cuter than this guy. I love that face! |
| As we flew out of Boston on Wednesday, we flew right over George Island, so I took this picture. It is the island on the lower right hand side. Can you see the fort and the green grassy compound in the middle? The ferry dock is on the left side of the island. This island is the biggest at the mouth of Boston Harbor. You can see why they picked this place to build a fort to guard the harbor. |
| As we walked from the ferry dock to the downtown Boston restaurant, the boys discovered a park with a fountain. We had to stop to play. |
| Eating dinner, delicious and small and quaint, in a restaurant where Guinevere had always wanted to try. The boys were little angels. There were only nine tables in the place, all close together. Very wonderful food and company. |

Counsel for Memorial Day: when I have memories of this day, along with my family members who are no longer on this earth and what Memorial Day is all about, I hope I remember all the good times we had. Life is such a joy when you have wonderful family. Thanks for a great time, Clark and Guinevere and boys.
